If you’re a business owner in Malaysia, you’re mandated by the Inland Revenue of Malaysia (LHDN) to retain sufficient records and a book of accounts for a period of 7 years from the end of the year to which income from the business relates. That means your business will accumulate significant paperwork and documentation over time that needs to be stored. With rising property prices, finding adequate storage space is becoming more challenging. Luckily, businesses can use self-storage solutions to store their documents and files safely and affordably. Here are some benefits of using self-storage facilities:

  1. Secure Storage Units

Usually, documents and records are stacked in cabinets in boxes, taking up valuable office space that could be used for other purposes. By renting a secure storage unit, such as the ones offered by Extra Space Asia, you can free up your office space for more productive use. Documents stored in Extra Space Asia are safe and secure, with CCTV monitoring the facilities 24/7, a unique PIN code for all customers, and an additional layer of security with a personal lock for each unit, giving you peace of mind.

  1. Flexible Storage Period

Extra Space Asia offers flexible storage options, allowing you to rent storage units for as short as 14 days or as long as you need. Moreover, you can extend the duration of your rental, if necessary, without being tied down to a fixed contract.

  1. Variety of Storage Sizes

Whether you’re a small business owner or part of an MNC, Extra Space Asia has a range of storage unit sizes to meet your needs. Their storage sizes range from as small as 11 sqft to as large as over 500 sqft, giving you the flexibility to choose the unit size that works best for you. Additionally, if your storage needs grow over time, you can easily upsize your storage unit.

With Raya fast approaching, it’s important to start preparing your home for the festive season. Here are three tips to help you get your house ready for the festivities:

Declutter and Deep Clean

Start by decluttering and deep cleaning your home. This is an opportunity to get rid of items that are no longer needed or used, and make space for new items. Go through each room, sorting items into piles of keep, donate, and throw away. For belongings that you would like to keep, you can store them with us at Extra Space Asia, where your items will be safe and secured, and you can access them anytime, any day! Once you’ve decluttered, deep clean your home. This means wiping down surfaces, cleaning floors and carpets, and washing curtains and linens. This will not only make your home look and feel cleaner, but it will also create a more welcoming environment for your guests.

Decorate with Raya-themed Items

Add some Raya-themed decorations to your home to create a festive atmosphere. This can include traditional items such as ketupat, colourful lanterns, and festive banners. You can also add a touch of modernity by incorporating contemporary decor items with a Raya twist, such as cushion covers with batik prints or wall hangings with traditional motifs. Make sure to place your decorations strategically in high traffic areas, such as your living room or dining area, to ensure they are visible to your guests.

Prepare Food and Beverages in Advance

Raya is a time of feasting and celebration, so it’s important to have a variety of food and beverages ready for your guests. Plan your menu in advance, and prepare as much as you can in the days leading up to the event. This will help reduce stress and allow you to enjoy the festivities with your loved ones. Some traditional Raya foods you can prepare include ketupat, rendang, lemang, and various types of kuih. Make sure to also have a selection of drinks on hand, such as tea, coffee, and refreshing cordials.

In conclusion, preparing your home for Raya can be an enjoyable process. By decluttering and deep cleaning your home, adding Raya-themed decorations, and preparing food and beverages in advance, you can create a warm and inviting atmosphere for your guests.

First things first, congratulations! It’s no mean feat, and we know how momentous this occasion is! Babies are a blessing, as they bring joy and happiness to everyone around. However, once the initial buzz and excitement settle down, possible worries may set in—are you well and truly prepared to welcome a baby into your life and home? In the early stages, babies are often curious as everything is new to them, so they tend to wander and touch and put everything in their mouths, so do keep an eye on what you leave around! Preparing for a baby’s room is truly exciting, and we’ve compiled some tips and tricks that may come in handy for you!

It’s recommended to share a room with your baby for the first six months! The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends this practice for infants’ first six months of life, lowering the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Having your baby within sight of you will also help put your mind at ease, as you know they’re within reach if anything happens. However, you may have to get creative with furniture! Mini cribs are fast becoming a thing, so are foldable, portable and convertible cribs! Your bedroom may need to be bigger to hold a large crib, so do consider moving some larger furniture to other rooms or possibly even a self-storage unit such as Extra Space Asia for the time being!

If you have a spare room which can be converted into a nursery, the best colours to paint the nursery are neutral tones. Not only are they timeless and soothing, this palette also makes it easy to mix and match neutral tones with other furnishings and decorations. You can let your kid pick out their fav colour when they grow older!

It’s also important to ensure that the room is safe and secure for a baby! Lest we forget, make it comfortable too, as both of you will be spending plenty of time in the room! Prepare for yourself a small corner to rest or an armchair for you to grab some quick shuteye while the baby’s napping. You’re going to need it! Pad the corners of any furniture in the room, and consider installing a rug to cushion the sounds of footsteps. Babyproof it thoroughly! Anchor down bulky furniture to prevent them from possibly toppling over. Conceal any electrical wires, if possible, as well as the power outlets too!

Most importantly, do remember to cherish this moment and enjoy it! It’s not every day one gets to go through a process such as this. Savour the moment, and have fun! For all your storage needs, there’s always Extra Space Asia. You can choose to store with us from as short as 14 days, to as long as you need! Who knows, baby number 2 might come along when you reckon you don’t need the extra space anymore! Find out more at www.extraspaceasia.com.my.

It’s no secret that property prices have been rising in recent times. We see a year-on-year increase in purchase prices as well as rental costs. If you find yourself in such a situation where you have to downsize your living space, fret not! We’ve put together a handy list of tips and tricks to help you move!

  1. Split into a trio

First, you will have to reduce your belongings, as you no longer have the luxury of space. Your new home will have much less space, and every square inch is valuable. You’ll no longer be able to keep that huge soft toy you won from a fun fair way back, as that’s potentially where a cupboard could be.

With this ‘sacrifice’ in mind, it’s time to split your items into three stacks; one where it’s the essentials, another to be donated and lastly to be tossed out. Be strict with yourself, as these items will make up the bulk of your space at home. Donate all unused clothes or those that can’t fit anymore to a charity. You’ll be saving space and doing a good deed at the same time!

  1. Measure and plan accordingly

Measure out the space you have in your new home, which will help determine where the bulky furniture can go. Knowing the restrictions you have in place will speed things up, so you can save time and effort moving things here and there to see if they fit. Write down the dimensions of each room in your new and old home to compare and give you a clearer idea of what needs to go.

  1. Prioritise multifunction space-saving furniture

This is when function trumps design, unfortunately. That stool that doubles as a table—we’re all for it! Coffee tables can be used as storage too. Bring it along! The smaller the space, the more functions each item should serve. Use your vertical space wisely, like choosing a bed frame with large drawers underneath it!

  1. Self-Storage

Whilst you may argue that the whole point of this downsizing exercise was to save money, self-storage is relatively affordable compared to a larger space rental! This option grants you the freedom and convenience to come and go as you wish and to also hold on to items that may come in handy one day, although you have no space for them in your home. Not to mention that you can rent for as long as you wish, with the flexibility of extending should the need arise!

All in all, downsizing doesn’t mean the end of the world. It can be a fruitful exercise to save more money too! Just follow the list of tips we’ve compiled for you, and you’ll be fine! Remember: For all your storage needs, there’s always Extra Space Asia.

With travel restrictions being lifted and beach holidays being back on the menu, it’s high time to start working out for that beach bod! Oh yes, and also the health benefits you stand to gain from working out are pretty amazing too. However, for many (or is it just me), going to the gym is one of life’s toughest struggles. It’s a constant battle lazing on my bed versus going to the gym, and more often than not my bed wins! Well, if going to the gym is an issue, why don’t we bring the gym to you! It’s actually not as hard as it sounds, to set up a simple home gym! Here are some tips and pointers:

Step 1: Finding and choosing the right space

Picking the right place and having ample space is crucial. Ideally, we should choose a large empty compound, as having more space wouldn’t go amiss. But it is important to also keep in mind the type of workout and exercise you’re aiming to do. You may need as much space as you think, when you’re doing High Intensity Interval Training cardio as compared to strength training, which will require bulky equipment. Do ensure that you like the spot you chose, and that you feel good about it, as having the right mindset will motivate you more to workout.

Step 2: Having the right equipment

As mentioned, determining the type of workout that you will be doing most often is important as you will then know what equipment is needed. Some small and simple equipment to get for cardio training include skipping rope, yoga mat, resistance bands and so on. If you have ample space, you may also opt for a treadmill. For those who are looking to bulk up and do some strength training, will need weights such as dumbbells, kettlebells, barbell and rack especially, and so on.

Step 3: Setting up your home gym

Now that you know what you need, you can begin setting up your very own home gym! Clear out all unnecessary items in the area that you have allocated as your workout space, as it can be distracting. A space that is clutter-free helps clear the mind, putting you in the right mood and motivation to work out. If you’re running out of space to store your excess belongings, know that Extra Space Asia is just a call away! You can store just about anything with us, and enjoy great flexibility in the sense that you can upsize or extend your storage duration should you wish to!

If possible, having a mirror full-length mirror for your home gym would be ideal. You will be able to monitor your own form when doing various exercises to ensure you’re doing it right. Not to mention the fact that you can check out how good you look too!

Step 4: Wipe down and clean after use

Always make sure the area is clean and tidy, especially after use! It would be dangerous to use weights lying around, as one could trip over it. With hygiene being our top priority these days as well, do wipe down your equipment after use. This keeps the place from reeking of sweat, which can be a turn off and demotivates one from working out.

Having a home gym is highly convenient and it would make it hard for one to procrastinate about working out anymore. It does not have to be expensive, and you can always make do with the space you have at home, with the help of Extra Space Asia!

We are absolutely delighted to announce the opening of our 4th facility in Malaysia – Extra Space Asia Kota Damansara! Located in the heart of Damansara, Emporis, the facility is easily accessibly via public transport and boasts ample parking as well. This expansion is in line with the company’s pipeline to continuously expand its footprint across the country, to serve the ever-growing demands for self-storage.

In recent times, space has slowly transformed into a luxury instead of a necessity. The scarcity of space and the skyrocketing prices of land and property in Malaysia are two of the many reasons people are starting to turn to self-storage as a solution. A foreign concept to many in the previous years, self-storage is now beginning to grow in popularity. More consumers are picking up on the many benefits of self-storage and its affordability, making it highly attractive.

Extra Space Asia’s commitment to flexibility is a breath of fresh air in times of uncertainty and doubt. More often than not, customers who rent a storage unit can only estimate how long they will need it for. Construction work timelines are unpredictable, and inventory forecasts may not always be accurate, lockdowns – these are just some examples of unforeseen circumstances. As such, Extra Space Asia has always held on to their policy that customers are not only able to extend or shorten their rental duration, but also to upsize and downsize their storage units as they wish.

At Extra Space Asia Kota Damansara, you need not worry about security in the slightest. Safety has always been the company’s priority, without compromise. CCTVs are installed at prime locations within the facility area and are running round-the-clock, 24 hours, 7 days a week. What’s more, entry to the storage area is only granted to customers of Extra Space Asia – so rest assured! Each customer will be provided a unique Pin code during the move-in process which you will use to access the storage area any time, any day. In terms of storage units, they can only be accessed by the customers as only you will have the keys to your storage units.

Unsure of the storage unit size you might need to store all of your business and personal items? Don't worry! At Extra Space Kota Damansara, we offer both Lockers and Walk-in storage units with a wide range of storage sizes ranging from as small as 12sqft to as large as 189sqft. If you have any storage enquiry, feel free to visit our Kota Damansara facility during our operational hours from Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm and Saturday 9am to 1pm. Our on-ground Customer Service Executives will be glad to show you around our storage facility and also the various storage sizes available that might fit all of your storage needs.

If you’ve made it all the way here, we have a juicy titbit to reward you! Extra Space Kota Damansara will not be the only new facility opening in Malaysia for the year. Plans are underway for our 5th facility, which will be up and running by Q4 of 2022, so stay tuned for more details!

As time progresses, space is becoming more scarce in recent times. We have to pay a premium to enjoy the privilege of having ample space, which is not something everyone has access to. That’s where we come in!

Extra Space Asia, the leading self-storage provider in the region, aims to help customers live the way life is meant to be lived – clutter-free. Many often associate self-storage with renting a warehouse, but that notion cannot be further from the truth. Self-storage is way cheaper, and the commitment period is highly flexible.

In Malaysia, a self-storage unit rental price can range from as low as RM70 a month up to RM1500 a month! There are a few factors that come into play for the pricing of self-storage, and they are as follows:

Storage Size

Size matters. Smaller units will naturally be cheaper when it comes to the rental rate than larger units. To ensure that you’re getting the most out of your money, choose a size that fits your needs. Sometimes, a smaller unit may suffice if you were to arrange and pack everything properly in your storage unit.

As Extra Space Asia offers flexible terms, you may also opt to start with a smaller-sized unit and upsize as and when the time and need comes. If you’re unsure what size suits your needs best, check out our Size Estimator for a better idea. Alternatively, our friendly customer service team is always at your call and beckon if you need their professional opinion and advice!

Storage Duration

Your length of stay is an important factor too. The longer you commit, the more potential savings you can enjoy! Store with us for a minimum of 2 months, and your first month’s rental will only cost you RM1! Talk about a steal.

However, that does not mean you need to tie yourself down to a long, lengthy contract with us! You can choose to store from as short as 14 days and extend to however long you need depending on your needs.

Storage Types

Did you know that we have different storage types? Here at Extra Space Asia, you can choose from non-airconditioned storage units, air-conditioned storage units and wine storage!

Some items you store may require a certain temperature to maintain optimal quality, especially in a country as hot and humid as Malaysia. That is why we offer air-conditioned storage units. The area is kept cool 24/7, regardless of time and day. Air-conditioned storage units will always cost more, too, because of the energy power requirements. Thus, choose wisely if an air-conditioned unit is something you truly need!

With that being said, these are the three main factors that will influence the pricing of your storage unit rental. Feel free to drop us a call at 1300220288 to speak to any of our friendly consultants who will be able to guide and advise you throughout the whole process!

Planning for a renovation to spruce up your home? We understand that it can be both exciting and stressful.

During the home renovation process, you’ll be letting third-party contractors and workers roam and work freely around your home. In order to create more space for everyone to move, most homeowners would start to declutter right about now, clearing items they no longer need and keeping their personal belongings in boxes neatly. Renting a self-storage unit is also one of the most convenient ways for your personal and family items. Here are three reasons why.

  1. Safe and secure

By storing your items in a self-storage facility like Extra Space Asia, you can rest assured that your items are in safe hands. Customers have their own unique PIN code, which they will require to access the storage area. Each storage unit will also be locked by your very own personal lock. This will ensure that only you have access to your storage units and your items.

There is also 24-hour CCTV monitoring in the storage facility premise to assure the absolute security of your items. What’s more, unlike other storage companies, Extra Space Asia remains staffed during operation hours to provide you with further assistance when needed.

  1. Keeping your things in good condition

When your home is undergoing a renovation, it’s inevitable to find dirt or dust around. Even if we were to move all of our personal belongings to one isolated room covered with a huge protective canvas, they might still be dusty. Or worse, covered with paint.

By storing your items in a self-storage unit, you’ll be able to ensure that they are not compromised in any way. To keep your items dust-free, you might want to clean all of your items before storing them in a clear plastic box and vacuum-sealed bags. This will help you organise, and you’ll also be able to see what items are stored in a single glance. This will be useful and time-saving when you plan to retrieve your items.

  1. 24-hour storage access

A self-storage is like an extension of your home where you can access any time and day you wish. All you need to access your storage unit would be your PIN code and key to your storage unit. It’s that simple.

In addition, you’ll be able to also enjoy extra space to keep all of your personal collection, furniture and family items all in one place. This will make things more convenient when you decide to bring your items back home in one trip.

If you’re in need of a reliable storage provider, visit Extra Space Asia Self-Storage today or call us at 1300220288.

With the rise in property prices in recent times, land is quickly becoming a scarce commodity. More and more people are starting to look towards self-storage as a quick and easy solution to a lack of space. However, we often get many questions in the form of, “What can and cannot be stored?”.

Today, we shall address this very question and clear up any misgivings you may have thus far.

Let’s start with what you CANNOT store in a self-storage unit.

CANNOT BE STORED

Hazardous Materials

Well, this goes without saying. If it goes boom, it’s not allowed. This means no gasoline, oil, chemicals, cleaners, propane, and so forth. Our facilities are not equipped to store this sort of materials. The environment may not be the most conducive for said materials, as some may require a certain optimum temperature to be kept safe.

It would be best to store any non-hazardous liquids such as beauty supplies in containers and bags so that in the event they do leak, it will not contaminate anything else.

Perishable Items

Perishables generally refer to food that has a shelf life and is required to be stored in the fridge. Avoid storing any form of perishable food such as meat, dairy and produce as it may go bad, and the smell would then be the least of our worries! Decomposed food could attract unwanted attention in the form of rodents and bugs! Canned and tinned goods are fine, but remember to check back every once in a while on the expiry date. Don’t let food go to waste!

Living items

While we know how comfortable our units may be, keep in mind that it is not a place to live in! Please do not keep your pets in here as well. It’s not ideal to be kept in a confined space for long periods. A gentle reminder that this also applies to plants. Most plants won’t survive without sunlight, and our storage units would be a death sentence for them, which could lead to bacteria and pests appearing.

Stolen or illegal goods

This pretty much speaks for itself. While we may not know the contents stored in your unit, we are obliged to report to the authorities should we be aware of any stolen or illegal items kept in your storage unit. Let’s all be good citizens and not steal anything in the first place, and the world shall be better.

CAN BE STORED

Now, we move on to what actually can be stored. And the answer is just about anything else that is not listed above! We figure it would be easier to list out what cannot be stored first.

Examples of some of the more common items stored with us include furniture, documents, books, building materials, commercial stock, wine, antiques, sports equipment, and many more! Our clientele comprises toy collectors, business owners, homemakers, students, corporate entities, film-makers, and so on.

If you’re ever in doubt and need some clarification, please do not hesitate to visit our website at Extra Space Asia to find out more, or you can call us at 1300220288 to speak to our customer support team!
